Two teams of our senior men were in Cornwall last Friday for this season’s second Parnell Cup. Peter Zeran, Larry Ware, Earl Jeacle and John Gove, as well as Jack Barkley, Dave King, Doug Jarvis and Rick MacKenzie represented us well. Jack’s team lost their first game but won their afternoon match, after the usual fine lunch. Peter’s foursome won both games and brought the trophy back to Morrisburg, where it originated many years ago. Congratulations fellows. The third Parnell is in Prescott January 19th.

For the senior men, the Bowman Trophy winners have been declared. The champions were Sid Morrell, Ron Beaupre, Fred “Boomer” Langlotz and Ken Paice, Second were

Sam Locke, Arndt Vogel, John Gove, and various spares. In third place were Don McMillan, Larry Ware, Bill Simmons and Terry Davis. Well done all. Competition for the Kincaid Trophy is now under way.

Last Sunday Susan McIntosh held a two-person bonspiel, another fund-raiser for the Club. Curlers enjoyed a pot-luck luncheon and some very competitive curling. Joan MacKinnon edged Don McMillan and Keith Robinson for third place, while second went to Ewan Wilson and his grandfather John. Taking first place in the battle between Jim and Wendy Casselman and Kathy Killick and Mahlon Locke required the throwing of skips’ rocks to break the tie. With calm deliberation, our club president outdrew Wendy for the championship and top prize money. It was an exciting competition and our thanks to Susan McIntosh and her committee for another excellent event.

The Lions Club hosts a charity funspiel here on January 20th (men, women, or any combination) and we’ll have the results next time.

Prescott sent three teams for a friendly bonspiel last Wednesday. Our curlers were Peter Zeran, Fred “Boomer” Langlotz, Pete Byvelds and Terry Davis, Don McMillan, Al Harriman, Bert Smail and Charlie Farlinger, and Sam Locke, Ron Beaupre, Doug Dixon and Kent Dawley. Our last two teams sent the visitors home happy, while Pete’s foursome were lest kind to our visitors. The lunch was great and ample, and we sampled some leftovers the next day. The next competition for the Parnell is Friday, and we’ll have two teams entered.

Kathy Norg reports that our Adult learn to Curl participants recently entered a team in the Winchester “3 years and under” spiel. They played Winchester in the morning draw and beat them 7-2. They played a Lancaster team after a fine luncheon, but lost 8-3. Our team of Mike and Sandra Bonyun and Stephane and Lisa Aube pulled off a respectable 3rd place finish. Congratulations folks.

The Ladies Broder Cup is on soon in Winchester and we’ll need two teams to represent us.
