Our Little Rockers were in an important competition recently, hosting teams from R.C.M.P and Winchester. Each team played 3 games. At the end of the day, Morrisburg, Winchester and R.C.M.P. were tied with 2 wins and 1 loss. All 12 players had to draw to the button. Winchester was the closest, then R.C.M.P., then Morrisburg. So unfortunately, even though we had defeated the first place team, Winchester, they, along with R.C.M.P., advanced to the Hogline O.V.C.A. event in Manotick on March 24th.Our youngsters acquitted themselves well. Congratulations to our Little Rockers, Alexis Grenkie, Hannah Gibbons, Emily Biemond and William Gibbons.

Kathy Norg, Joan McKinnon, Claire Locke and Penny Charlebois went to Arnprior on the weekend. On Saturday they played an Arnprior team and won handily. Our ladies returned to the club on Sunday to take on a Richmond foursome. It was a very close game, but in the end Richmond won the championship. Well done anyway, ladies.

Last Wednesday three of our senior men’s teams were in Cornwall for a friendly bonspiel. Sam Locke, Pete Vyvelds, Fred “Boomer” Langlotz and Gord Empey, Moe Kolff, Jim Adams, Chuck Irvine and Kent Dawley, as well as Andy Patenaude, Rick MacKenzie, John Gove, and Earl Jeacle. For the first time, our local teams all lost to the Cornwall hosts. After a delicious luncheon, the usual banter and assorted beverages, our fellows motored back to the comfort of their home club.

A team of our ladies drove through the snow to Alexandria and took on a fine foursome from Lancaster. Alice Thompson, Betty Locke, Nelda Hickman and Cindy Paice had an excellent match against Lancaster, defeating them handily. After a delicious lunch, including a dessert that made our skip’s day, they returned to the ice but lost to a strong local team. Treats, games and prize presentations followed, and our ladies drove home carefully through a virtual whiteout.

The next day, our folks drove to Navan for a 222 competition (two men, two women and a combined total age of at least 222 years). Keith Robinson, Alice Thompson, Fred “Boomer” Langlotz, and Nelda Hickman won both of their games against teams from Navan and finished second on the day. The team from North Grenville won as well, and eked out a narrow win in the prize total. An excellent day, folks!

Last week, Greta McGann and her team won her game in a rare event, an eight-ender. Wally Baker, our ice technician took a photo. Congratulations, folks! Also, best wishes to Anjo and Kathy Norg, who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by treating all of the players to drinks. What a night!

On the same day, we had two teams of ladies in Winchester for their grandmothers’ bonspiel. First were Kathy Norg, Joanne McKinnon, Penny Charlebois, and Cindy Paice. The ladies beat Granite in the morning and Brockville after lunch, losing to the eventual winner in the overall by half a point. Sue McIntosh, Wendy Casselman, Joanne Baker and Claire Locke beat Richmond in the morning, but lost a squeaker to Russell in the afternoon. All enjoyed a delicious banquet and the other festivities before heading home.

Three senior men’s teams were in Winchester for a friendly bonspiel. The teams were Dave Salmon, Doug Jarvis, John Gove and Bill Simmonds, and Jack Barkley, Ron Beaupre, Ron Brinston and Gerry Thompson, as well as Arndt Vogel, Al Harriman, Kent Dawley and Charlie Farlinger. All three of our teams won, enjoyed lunch, socialized, and headed home happy.
