Morrisburg Hosts Women's Bonspiel
Written by Mahlon LockeSaturday was our Christmas(turkey) Bonspiel. The 1st draw was comprised of 2/6end games. The trophy winners were Wilson ”Inc”. Team members were Ian Wilson, Ewan Wilson, Catherine Coleman, and John Wilson. Runners up were Rock On; Andy Patenaude, Mike Bunyon, Allan Black and Heather Black. The 2nd draw, 1/8 end game was won by the Pickups; Pete Zeran, Joan McKinnon, Johnny Gove and Linda Murphy. The silver medal went to the Kyle Drivers; Garry Beckstead, Carolyn Beckstead, Paula Locke and Mahlon Locke. 68 people enjoyed a turkey dinner prepared by Kevin “Bingo” Osborne. Donations were provided by Upper Canada Playhouse, Greta McGann, Valumart and the McGann team.
Last Wednesday saw a local men’s team travel to Maxville where they won the early draw. Team members were Pete Zeran, Mahlon Locke, Johnny Gove and Earl Jeacle.
The previous day, the Morrisburg Curling Club hosted a Ladies Bonspiel. Winchester finished 1st, Manotick-2nd and Russell-3rd.
On December 1-2, 2 local ladies teams travelled to Ottawa to play in the LCA Challenge Event. A Winchester team finished runners-up overall, while a Morrisburg team skipped by Greta McGann received a silver pin.
