One of our mixed teams attended Navan’s 222 bonspiel last week. Keith Robinson, Alice Thompson, Fred “Boomer” Langlotz and Nelda Hickman entered. Navan had trouble filling the sheets at their bonspiel and had to put in two local teams. Unfortunately they were very very good. Our folks played them and lost the first match. After a tasty lunch, with special attention to their lemon meringue pie, our people played the other local foursome and came close, but dropped that one as well, 4-2.
On Saturday our club hosted a charity bonspiel sponsored by the Cornwall and District Alzheimer Society. The Society seeks to make people aware of dementia and encourages them to help those with this all-too-common disease to live well. They note ten of the warning signs for this insidious disease, including memory loss, disorientation in time and space, misplacing things, changes in personality, as well as loss of initiative.
On Friday two teams of our senior men were in Prescott to play in the third Parnell competition this year. Peter Zeran, Mahlon and Sam Locke and Bud Perry, who won the Cornwall version of the event, were allowed a bye as one of our reps. Jack Barkley, Dave King, Doug Jarvis and Rick MacKenzie defeated Don McMillan, Andy Patenaude, Keith Robinson and Peter Byvelds to also play in the Parnell.
